International Relations |
Altrusa International is a global volunteer service organization whose purpose is to promote better communities through service by an international network of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
The International Relations Committee approaches service under a global perspective. We strive to create awareness of other cultures and to stimulate international relations through a variety of projects:

Soy Fuerte | I am Strong
Leyda finds her strength in the Atitlán region of Guatemala. With her washable Days for Girls Kit, she is empowered to live her full life during her period and no longer be sequestered as her female relatives have been for centuries.
Helps International
We participate in the PEP Kids sponsorship program and cover one's child school tuition in Guatemala. In 2019, our sponsored student Senaya Isabella Torres Medina, graduated from 6th grade. It was rewarding to see her educational growth over those formative years. Currently, we sponsor Juana Zuleika Tzoy Torres, who is in 2nd grade.

American Hero Quilt Project
Club members decorate squares to use in quilts that are sent to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.
Pen Pal Project between Richardson Terrace Elementary and TeacHaiti
This project is a joint project and is aimed at fostering cultural understanding between school-age children. Club members will work closely with the teachers to assist them in teaching about the two cultures and in building friendships through the exchange of letters, e-mails, and video messages between two 4th grade classes - one at Richardson Terrace Elementary School, which our club adopted in 2000, the other at the School of Hope in Port-au-Prince. United Nations Days
We encourage club members to observe dates of international importance, i.e. Women's Rights Day (March 8), World Health Day (April 7), World Literacy Day (September 8), International Peace Day (3rd Tuesday in September), United Nations Day (October 24), Human Rights Day (December 10). International Days of Observance are dates officially recognized by the United Nations.
Thank you to all the members who attended and wore Orange in honor of
Eliminate Violence Against Women UN Day of Observance.
The Japan-America Grassroots Summit 2012
The Richardson Community came together to host 16 Japanese visitors and treat them to a traditional Progressive Dinner Party, Saturday, September 1, 2012. Thank you to Altrusa Richardson for planning and hosting a fabulous event, which is sure to be one of the most memorable events of the 2012 Summit for Richardson visitors.
Progressive dinner participants, host homes, musicians, artists and Altrusa Richardson volunteers take a quick break from the evenings festivities to pose for a group photo of international friendships made during the Summit and that will last long after the Summit has ended.
